JERSEY CITY, New Jersey (NJ.COM) – A little boy named Parth Patel who is a 9-year-old fourth grader is battling cancer and first responders held a surprise parade for him.

Parth was diagnosed in 2014 with Ewing Sarcoma, which is a type of cancer that forms in areas around the bones in children and young adults. Parth has been unable to attend full days of school lately because of his cancer.

Police Officer Adrien Murrell had heard about Parth and the battle that he is fighting. Officer Murrell lost her brother to a terminal illness and she knew that she wanted to do something special for Parth.

Over 100 police officers, firefighters, and EMTs got together and surprised Parth with a parade at his Nelson Avenue home down North Street to School 27. Parth was fitted with a custom-made Jersey City Police Officer uniform, and Parth was taken from his home and placed in a Batmobile where he was driven by his favorite superhero.

The parade was a big hit and numerous students from the school held signs calling Parth their superhero. Parth’s classmates cheered him on with words like “let’s go Parth” as he passed them.

Officer Adrien Murrell said, “I just wanted to see him smile,” and “That’s it and it will make the family feel like they have the support.”
